Restoration for a Restoration Contractor?

A few weeks ago a restoration contractor was referred to me by another of my clients. He found himself in an insurance disaster from which he needed guidance and some patience in order to get him out of a mess and into a place where his documentation and coverage were clear to him.

After working together to identify his needs, we found that our processes weren't all that different. We were identifying the root cause of his issues - He had 12 vehicles, on 12 different policies, all renewing at different dates twice a year! Imagine, 24 auto renewals a year? It took time for us to piece it together but once we did and we almagamated them all onto one policy, there were significant cost savings to be realized, while enhancing the coverage that he already had.

We then turned our focus to the contractors general liability policy. After a review of his existing coverages, we found that he was not covered for pollution liability, and worse, his insurer and agent were not able to offer this coverage. For a restoration contractor, pollution exposures from their work with Mould and other hazerdous materials is a significant risk. Most of the reputable contractors in this field spend a great deal of time on learning how to handle these materials safely. As soon as I asked my client if he knew he was operating without it, he was shocked. Needless to say, the coverage is readily available, and in this case the Contractor wasted no time in having the proper coverage arranged.

My client cancelled his existing insurance policy mid term to move over to what he knew was better coverage at a savings to him. Coverage went into force on May 3, 2011, and not a moment too soon, on May 4, 2011 at 8:30am our contractor had a claim and he also had the right coverage.
